Pedro’s Wine Bar brings a taste of Portugal to London

Tucked away on Bermondsey Street, Pedro’s Wine Bar brings an authentic slice of Portugal to London.

It’s part wine bar, part wine shop, and entirely the kind of place where you can lose track of time over a great glass and a few plates worth sharing.

Wall of wine in Pedros

Portuguese wines galore

The first thing you notice at Pedro’s is the wine list — and it’s huge. Shelves of Portuguese bottles line the room, making it clear that wine is the heart of the space. If you’re not sure where to start (and I wasn’t), the staff are more than happy to help narrow things down based on what you usually like. Whether you’re into something crisp and refreshing or prefer something deeper and more robust, they’ll steer you in the right direction.

The wine bar for a cosy glass or three

The atmosphere is relaxed and warm, the kind of place that works equally well for a quick drink on a weeknight or a longer catch-up where you slowly graze through the menu. While you could easily settle in with just wine, resisting the food would be a mistake.

Small plates worth sharing

We ordered a selection of dishes, all rooted in classic Portuguese flavours and simple, quality ingredients.

  • Fresh sourdough with seasonal tomatoes & creamy burrata

    • A light, vibrant start — fresh tomatoes and rich burrata on top of excellent bread.

  • Pataniscas de Bacalhau (salted cod fritters)

    • Crisp on the outside, soft inside, and lifted by smoky paprika mayo.

  • Gambas à Navalheiro (peeled prawns with garlic, beer, chillies & spices)

    • Juicy, aromatic, and full of flavour — exactly what you want from garlic prawns.

  • Chouriço da Beira Alta, cooked at the table

    • A bit of theatre without being over the top. The chouriço arrives flaming and is served simply with sourdough.

  • Smoked pork & poultry croquettes with winter truffle mayo

    • Crunchy, savoury, and especially good with a sip of red wine between bites.

A sweet finish

No visit to a Portuguese spot is complete without a pastel de nata, and Pedro’s version is exactly what you’d hope for - crisp pastry, silky custard, and just the right amount of sweetness.

The takeaway

Pedro’s Wine Bar is a great choice if you’re looking for relaxed drinks, a huge range of Portuguese wines and small plates that are genuinely well-made. Whether you're stopping by for a glass after work or settling in for an evening of food and wine, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back.
