If you don’t know by now, I am a fan of Aberdeenshire’s successful brewery, Brewdog, and have previously sampled their appetizing vegan burger which I told you all about previously and now crave constantly.
But this time, when I headed to Brewdog Union Square for the first time with Holly after a morning jaunt around the city centre spending far too much money on clothes I don’t need, I forced myself away from the mouth-watering burger and opted for a pizza instead.
That pizza being the Spicy Meaty pizza.
The Brewdog Main Course
This warm, comforting treat comes with a sourdough base topped with everything I look for in a pizza – spicy pepperoni, chilli flakes, smashed Napoli tomatoes, Scottish fior di latte mozzarella and nduja.
Alongside a chilled glass of Elvis Juice, one of my personal favourite beers by Brewdog, the pizza was a delight to my taste buds. Elvis Juice is a refreshingly citrusy beer with notes of grapefruit making it tart and delicious. Another citrusy beer if you fancy something even fruitier is Clockwork Orange. It’s another I love. Or if you want to play ball, Brewdog recommends you to wash down this pizza with a pint of Punk IPA.
The Brewdog Side Dishes
Now let’s get into the sides. It wouldn’t be a dinner experience with Holly without ordering more food than we are capable of eating so, of course, we ordered both the Buffalo Chicken Wings and the Buffalo Cauliflower. Oh and a portion of sweet potato fries!
Sweet potato fries are a firm favourite for everyone so you cannot go wrong with these crisp, yet fluffy chips. But for me, it was the Buffalo Wings that stole the show. If you fancy a side with a kick, then the wings are definitely for you. The crispy buttermilk chicken wings are coated in a flavoursome, fiery hot sauce and a honey glaze. The vegetarian option, buffalo cauliflower, comes with vagabond battered cauliflower, the same spicy hot sauce and a syrup glaze, served with a helping of vegan mayo dip. Both are delicious in their own way. The chicken wings fall off the bone with ease whereas the cauliflower provides you with a satisfying crunch. Be prepared to get messy!
Final Thoughts on Brewdog
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Brewdog Union Square. It’s not a centre I trek to often but if I do, I know where I will be eating from now on, even if it’s just to have a sneaky beer.
Brewdog has also introduced a breakfast and brunch menu to their bars and that is now at the top of my to-do list. Be prepared to see a review of the brunch burger soon or fried chicken waffles soon.
