Have you been to the Aberdeen Market recently? Chances are that you maybe haven’t as Aberdeen Market isn’t usually the first choice within Aberdeen for shopping and cuisine. But over the last few years, Aberdeen Market has seen some brilliant restaurants popping up that actually are to rave about and worth your time.
One of these restaurants is Avo.
Avo is a relatively new, small cafe within the Aberdeen Market that specialises in all things avocado. Avocado drinks, avocado food – what more could you want?!
Run by friendly employees, the cafe is perfect for a spot of brunch that is delicious but still nutritious.
When I first set foot in Avo, I knew I was going to enjoy my time there just on first impressions.
The rustic, wooden decor with their leafy accents and avocado accessories dotted around provides an eco and natural feel to the space which is right up my street. Avo pride themselves on being a sustainable brand and the decor certainly gives off that aesthetic.
The food is a little more expensive than I had anticipated as it situated in the market, but when your food is served to your table, you can fully understand why. Served on wooden boards and garnished with delicate, edible flowers, the presentation of the food is faultless.
There is a selection of waffles, toast and salad jars to choose from on their menu. I liked the sound of classic avocado on toast so decided to go for Avo’s take on this.
I received their signature smashed avocado, with coriander, spring onion and chilli flakes and lime, on fresh, sourdough bread topped with grilled chicken breast pieces and mozzarella. If this doesn’t already sound wonderful, the dish also came topped with roasted bell peppers, mixed leaves and a free range boiled egg that was pink!
If you enjoy avocado, I do not think you would be disappointed with this dish. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to going back and experiencing it again soon.
Avo also offer a variety of avocado blended smoothies such as the Power Berry smoothie that I had the pleasure of enjoying.
This is a fruity blend of avocado (obviously), banana, blueberry, raspberry and spirulina, which is a type of blue/green algae that is full of beneficial nutrients. It was such a refreshing drink that is bursting with flavour.
If you are an avocado fan, you are bound to enjoy a visit to Avo. The food is mouth-watering and the staff are lovely. We had a lovely time and are sure to pop in again sometime soon to devour more avocado based treats!
